Corded piping

Corded piping is produced by inserting filler cords into a bias- or cross-grain-cut fabric strip. Cut strips wide enough to wrap around the filler cord plus 1 1/4" (3 cm) for seam allowance. Seam together short strips on an angle to create the needed length. Attach piping foot for smaller pipings or single/welt cord foot for thicker pipings  Fold the strip in half around the filler cord, making sure to align raw edges of fabric strip. Position fabric under foot with filler cord against edge of presser foot.  Move needle position to stitch snugly against the filler cord. To insert corded piping, pin piping to garment, right sides together, aligning raw edges. Piping can be attached to a one or sandwiched between two fabric layers. At corners and curves, clip the seam allowance up to the filler cord, making sure not to clip through stitching. Stitch the piping or single/welt cord foot in place.
