Sew and cut

Posted by Carina Thavelin

This is a “piecing” technique where you sew and cut the fabric as you go.

You start with four squares of fabric, 6x6cm (2.5”x2.5”)

  1. Put the squares on a foundation fabric and sew the raw edges together with a three step zig-zag or a decorative stitch.
  2. Cut the pieces in half as shown in picture and switch place.
  3. Sew them together again.
  4. Cut them in half in the other direction and change place again.
  5. Sew them together.

Now you have a nice piece of fabric 12x12cm (5”x5”). Continue with the same technique and create as many pieces as you like/need and sew them together to create a large pieced fabric.

In the main picture it was used in a quilt and with a more irregular size of squares. I can’t wait to use it in a garment.

Try it…it’s so much fun!
