Stitchin' Awesome Bag

This sturdy and attractive bag for your car will help to keep your things organized. It utilizes some of the PFAFF® Exclusive Stitches: Floating, Radiant and Decorative.

Sewing Supplies:

● PFAFF® creative icon™sewing and embroidery machine

● INSPIRA™ Tear-A-Way stabilizer 12” x 10yds 416613304

● 1A – Fancy Stitch Foot for IDT™ System

● 2A – Fancy Stitch Foot

● Bi Level Guide Foot for IDT™ System

● ⅓ yd. Fabric A – dark color vinyl for back and front side panels

● ⅛ yd. Fabric B – denim or home dec fabric for front panel

● ⅓ yd. Fabric C – cotton print for lining

● Robison-Anton® 40wt Rayon thread

● 50wt sewing thread to match vinyl

● Robison-Anton® 60wt Poly Filament bobbin thread

● 15” of 1” or 1½” webbing (cut in half)

● 3” Velcro (cut in half)

● INSPIRA™ Scissors

● Wash away fabric marker

● Rotary cutter, cutting mat and ruler

● Clover Wonder Clips (use these instead of pins when working with vinyl)


Cut:

2(4” x 11”) Fabric A – Vinyl 1(11” x 12”) Fabric A – Vinyl

1(4½” x 11”) Fabric B – Denim or Home Dec fabric

2(11” x 11”) Fabric C – Cotton print

6(3” x 12”) INSPIRA™ Tear-A-Way stabilizer

1(5” x 5”) Cotton fabric and stabilizer to practice stitches

Prepare:

1. Thread the creative icon™ with Robison-Anton® rayon thread on top for the Radiant stitches and Robison-Anton® 60wt Poly Filament bobbin thread on the bottom.

2. Attach the 2A – Fancy Stitch Foot.

3. Mark the center of the (4½” x 11”) Fabric B front panel lengthwise with a wash away fabric marker.


Sew:

1. Touch Home.


2. Open Help Center > Techniques and Tutorials > SEWING TECHNIQUES > Exclusive Stitch Techniques > RADIANT STITCHES and watch the tutorial.

3. After watching the tutorial click on CONTENT at the top of the Radiant Stitches tutorial window.


4. Choose Radiant stitch #4. If you went through the Stitch menu then it would be Radiant stitch #8.6.2.

5. Close the tutorial window by touching the symbol in upper right hand corner of that window.


6. Place a (3” x 12”) piece of INSPIRA™ Tear-A-Way stabilizer behind Fabric B and stitch one row of the Radiant stitch down the center of the front panel.


7. Click on STITCH EDIT.


8. Mirror the stitch to face the other direction and stitch another row down the center.


9. Change to another color of rayon thread.

10. Open the Stitch Menu

11. Scroll across the top of the LOAD STITCH menu until you get to the third category NEEDLE ART. Choose stitch #3.2.7.

12. Attach the 1A – Fancy Stitch Foot for IDT™ System and engage the IDT™.

13. Stitch down the center to cover where the 2 rows of Radiant stitches meet each other.

14. Change to another color of rayon thread.

15. Attach the 2A – Fancy Stitch Foot.

16. Select stitch #3.3.1 and stitch down the middle again. Go slow so that your stitches stay in the middle.

17. Press.

18. Touch Home.

19. Open Help Center > Techniques and Tutorials > SEWING TECHNIQUES > Exclusive Stitch Techniques > FLOATING STITCHES – FOLDED and watch the tutorial.

20. After watching the tutorial click on CONTENT at the top of the Floating Stitches – Folded tutorial window.

21. Change to another color of rayon thread (if you wish).

22. Choose Floating stitch #13 or if you went through the Stitch menu then it would be Floating stitch 8.5.10.

23. Close tutorial window by touching symbol in upper right hand corner of that window.

24. Click on STITCH EDIT at the bottom of the screen.

25. Change the density to 0.2. This will increase the density of the stitch.

26. Attach the Bi Level Guide Foot for IDT™ System and engage the IDT™.

27. Fold the (4” x 11”) Fabric A – vinyl strip in half lengthwise with right sides together and stitch using the (3” x 12”) piece of INSPIRA™ Tear-A-Way stabilizer.

28. Remove the stabilizer and finger press.

29. Open then press on the back side of vinyl only.

30. Repeat for the other piece of vinyl.

31. Touch Home.

32. Open Help Center > Techniques and Tutorials > SEWING TECHNIQUES > Exclusive Stitch Techniques > FLOATING STITCHES – JOINED and watch the tutorial.

33. After watching the tutorial click on CONTENT at the top of the Floating Stitches – Joined tutorial window.

34. Choose Floating stitch #4 or if you went through the Stitch menu then it would be Floating stitch #8.5.4.

35. Click on STITCH EDIT at the bottom of the screen.

36. Change the density to 0.2. This will increase the density of the stitch.

37. Close tutorial window by touching symbol in upper right hand corner of that window.

38. Attach the 1A – Fancy Stitch Foot for IDT™ System and engage the IDT™.

39. Change to another color of rayon thread (if you wish).

40. Place the vinyl side panel right sides together with the front panel. Place a (3” x 12”) piece of INSPIRA™ Tear-A-Way stabilizer underneath.

41. Stitch using the edge of the foot as a seam guide. Stitch down one side.

42. Remove stabilizer and finger press open.

43. Repeat for the other side.

44. Square up the front piece to the back.

45. Cut 1½” squares out of each lower corner (2 per side).

46. Change to sewing thread that matches the vinyl.

47. Sew right sides together with ½” seam, boxing the corners. Turn right side out.

48. Cut 1½” squares out of each corner of Fabric C the lining fabric.

49. Sew right sides together with ½” seam allowance, boxing corners. Leave a 4” gap unsewn at the bottom of the lining for turning later.

50. Sew a 1½” piece of Velcro on both lining pieces, in the middle of the top of the lining 1” down from the top edge.

51. Choose stitch #2.1.6 if you want to use a blanket stitch to stitch the Velcro down.

52. Find the midline of the back vinyl piece and mark. Place the webbing 2” from that mark on both sides and tack down with a ⅛” seam allowance.

53. Repeat for attaching the webbing to the front of the bag.

54. Put the right side of the vinyl (outer part) of the bag inside the lining so that the right side of the outer vinyl bag is touching the right side of the lining fabric.

55. Use the free arm to stitch a ½” seam along the top.

56. Then pull lining over vinyl and stuff the lining inside of the bag (“birth the bag”).

57. Stitch the bottom gap closed.

58. Attach the Bi Level Guide Foot for IDT™ System and engage the IDT™.

59. Select stitch #1.1.2. Move the needle over to -3.5 and topstitch at the upper rim of the bag.


Now go and organize your car!
