Elastic waistband
Different types of elastic will stretch to different degrees. To achieve a comfortable fit, place a length of elastic around your waist. Stretch to a comfortable fit and add approx. 2" (5 cm) for seam allowance and ease. Mark elastic and waistband in quarters. Stitch the short ends of the elastic together to form a continuous piece. Adjust seam allowance for a perfect fit. With right sides together, stitch side seams of garment and clean-finish the raw edge. Match quarter markings of elastic to waist-band edge, positioning seam of elastic with centre back of garment. Pin the wrong side of the elastic to the right side of the garment, aligning bottom edge of elastic with seamline. While sewing, stretch the elastic waistband Use an elastic stitch or a zigzag stitch to secure the elastic in place, stretching elastic to fit waistline edge.
