Classic shirt sleeve
For the classic shirt sleeve placket, use a strip of fabric twice as wide and approx. 2" (5 cm) longer than the finished opening (plus seam allowance). Transfer all markings to placket and sleeve pieces. The placket is always attached to the opening edge that is farthest from sleeve seam. Cut along the centre of the opening up to1/4" (7 mm) from the top of the opening. Clip into the corners at the top end of the opening, being careful not to cut beyond themarked lines.Narrow hem the opening edge closest to the sleeve seam. With right sides together, fold the placket inhalf lengthwise. Stitch across the top seam allowance. Trim the seam allowance, clip the curve, turn right side out and press.Fold under and press the seam allowance on the long edges. With right sides together, stitch the outer long edge of the placket to the remaining raw edge of the sleeve opening. Press the seam allowance towards the placket.Fold inner placket edge over raw edges and topstitch close to the edge of the fold.Fold the placket over the opening and pin or baste in place. Stitch a square shape above the sleeve opening. Stitch two diagonal rows of stitching through center of square (as pictured).
