Collar with collar stand
Transfer pattern markings to fabric pieces. Interface collar and collar stand pieces with a light to medium weight interfacing. With wrong sides together and matching pattern markings, pin the upper and under collars together. The under collar will be slightly smaller than the upper collar to allow the collar to curve naturally to the topside. Gently stretch the under collar as it is sewn, shortening the stitch length slightly at the corners to prevent them from pulling out. The beginning and ending points of the seam are determined by your pattern. Trim the seam allowance, clip the corners and turn the collar right side out. Carefully pull out the collar points using a pin or a point turning tool. Baste raw edges together. If desired, topstitch close to collar edge along ends and top edge of collar. Fold under and press 3/8" (10 mm) of the seam allowance of the long, lower edge of the inner collar stand piece. With right sides together and matching markings, position and pin the raw edge of the upper collar to the top edge of the inner collar stand piece. Place remaining collar stand piece right side face down on opposite side of collar. Pin in place, matching markings. Stitch along seam line securing collar in collar stand, beginning and ending 3/8" (1 cm) from the ends of the seam. Trim seam allowance and clip corners and curves. Turn collar stand right side out and press. Topstitch around collar stand if desired. Pin and sew the bottom raw edge of the outer collar stand to the neck edge of the garment, matching markings. Trim seam allowance, clip corners and press seam allowance toward collar stand. Fold inner collar stand over seam allowance and pin. From right side of garment, stitch-in-the-ditch of the bottom collar stand. Make sure to catch the inner collar stand in the seam.
