An overlock machine/serger is the perfect companion for your sewing machine.

There is so much more to it than only cutting and finishing edges with a 4-thread overlock stitch. Even if that is what I use it for 90% of the time.

My favorite decorative stitch is the flatlock, where you can use either the flatlock side or the ladder stitch side, especially beautiful with a heavier thread. If you want to have a nice finished edge on a light weight fabric like chiffon or organza, the rolled edge stitch is the perfect choice.

See pictures of all the different stitches you can create on an overlock machine here: Compare stitches in the overlock line

It might feel a little bit overwhelming when you see that you can use from 2-5 threads. But there are animated threading guides that helps you every step of the way. You can play, pause, rewind and see all the details ib the threading. Since it is animated you can see the threads clearly.

April is the official serger month so I’d like to share a project with you.

This is a cute bag where you can keep your big spools of serger thread organized. Completely sewn on an overlock machine/serger. You will learn to sew several different stitches, use decorative threads and optional accessories like the Piping Foot and Strap and Belt Loop Foot.
