Shape Creator™ Feature
The embroideries on the squares were created using the Shape Creator™ feature. Play with the feature yourself to create a design or use the downloadable file, Quilt_square. Embroider on teal fabric and trim squares to 7¼” x 7¼” (18x18cm).
Piece the upper section according to the diagram using ¼” seam allowance. Create diagonal rows by adding triangles on either side of the squares, and then sew the rows together.
Ribbon stitches
Choose one of the new ribbon stitches and sew it about 1” (2.5cm) from the top edge of the 31”x 28” (79x71cm) off-white cotton fabric. We used stitch 6.6.7 and sewed it with two different colors of ⅛” satin ribbon on a single layer of fabric with tear-a-way stabilizer behind it. See detailed instructions for double ribbon stitches in your owner’s manual.
Attach the pieced top to the lower section.
Place cotton batting behind the whole lower section before you continue.
Thread with 30 wt. cotton thread.
Quilt Embroidery
Download embroidery Quilt_leaves, an endless leaf design; transfer it to your machine. Embroider the design four times. Position the embroidery below the ribbon stitches, approximately 5½” (14cm) from the top edge
The embroidery featured at the bottom of the wall hanging is from PFAFF® collection 408 Feather Quilting. Download design Quilt_swirl and transfer it to your machine.
Embroider the design four times along the bottom edge – opposite the ribbon stitches. Use the illustration as a guide for placement.
Free-motion
Free-motion stitching is added to accent the embroidery and create additional texture on the project.
Fill in the flowers from the endless embroidery with free-motion stitching. See example in illustration.
Echo quilt around the border embroidery as desired, using the Free-motion Echo quilting foot. We stitched four rows approximately ⅜” (1cm) apart.
In the space between the embroidered areas, draw lines to define two areas for free-motion stitching. Refer to the illustration for placement and suggestions for type of stitching. Fill in these areas with your favorite free-motion technique.
In the top section of the wall hanging, fill in the triangles with free-motion sewing.
Stitch Creator™ Feature
Use the Stitch Creator™ Feature to create the decorative stitches that outline the free-motion areas. See attached step-by-step document. (Exercise from creative vision as a downloadable file) Sew along the edge of the free-motion as shown.
Trim the quilt to approximately 43”x27½” (110x70cm)
Tabs
Add tabs along the top edge to hang your quilt. Cut 5 pieces approximately 8 ½” long x 4” wide (22cm long x 10cm wide). Sew into tubes then fold into loops. Evenly space the loops along the top of the hall hanging.
Piping
Create your own piping using one of the fabrics from your wall hanging. See detailed instructions in the online Accessory Catalog.
Sew the piping around the wall hanging using the Piping Foot.
Place backing fabric right sides together with the wall hanging and sew again in the same stitching line as for the piping. Leave an opening on one side to turn project right side out.
Done!
