Beginner Sewing Project – Spiral Coasters
You will love our Beginner Sewing Project! Even better this sustainable project uses leftover fabric. Make a quick gift to bring to the Holiday Parties you are attending, or do you want your own set of coasters in your favorite colors? With some fabric scraps and an embroidery machine, you can make these zero waste darlings in no time.
To sew Spiral Coasters you will need:
- PFAFF® sewing and embroidery machine
- Wool or felt fabric in different colors
- Tear-a-Way stabilizer
- Sewing or embroidery thread
Optional
- Double sided fusible web (INSPIRA® Fuse & Stick)
Cut
Combine fabric and cut pieces you want for your coasters. The bottom fabric should be approximately 6”x6” (15x15cm). Cut one or two fabrics in different sized circles (they can be a bit rough on the edges).
Tip: Use double sided fusible to stick the circles to each other before embroidering.
Embroider
Hoop stabilizer in a small hoop (the design measures 4”x4” (10x10cm).
Place the fabric square centered in the hoop. Place the circles randomly on top. Embroider the spiral.
Remove the stabilizer and fabric from the hoop. Cut the fabric about ¼” (6mm) from the outside the edge of the spiral stitching.
The style of your coasters becomes very different based on the colors you select. Personalize them for all of your family and friends!
